Getting Involved

Children:

We welcome any children who would like to join the Group.

The only condition of admission, is a willingness to make the Cub or Scout Promise, respectively.

The usual joining procedure, is to allow the child to attend regular meetings for a period of 6 weeks. This gives them the opportunity to experience what it means to be a Cub or a Scout, as they take part in the various activities on offer.

Once the initial 6 week period is over, Cubs and Scouts get their uniform, and are invested as members of the Scout Association. To be invested means to make the Cub or Scout Promise.

To find out more about joining, please email the Scouter concerned, Akela for the Cub Pack, and Corbie for the Scout Troop.

Adults:

As with any volunteer organisation, one of our greatest needs is people willing to offer their time, to get involved with the functioning of the Group.

We need people at all levels, from those willing to be part of our Parents' Committee, right through to people willing to work on a roster basis, to help out at Pack and Troop meetings.

Here is a brief description of the main roles in which parents can support us.

Parents Committee:

This committee is responsible for the day-to-day running of the Group. Functions include ensuring that the grounds and Hall are maintained, providing and maintaining equipment for the Pack and Troop, and raising additional funds for the Group.

The Committee is elected annually, and serve for a term of a year. Meetings generally take place once a month.

Volunteers on a Roster:

This role is varied, and tasks differ from meeting to meeting. The idea is that we have one or two parents per evening, to assist the Scouters in the running of a programme.

Volunteers in uniform:

This is a more of an hands-on volunteer role, as the volunteer gets invested as an adult member of the Scout Association, and are known as Scouters. Scouters are required to fulfil certain minimum training requirements, which are paid for by the Group Committee.

If you would like to get involved as a volunteer, please contact our Group Scouter, called Falcon, and he will be happy to discuss opportunities for involvement with you.
